6. Install record and pre-drive checklist#

Authority for this chapter: it does not introduce anything new — every line below is copied from the "You are done when…" section at the end of chapters 1 through 5. This chapter exists to put the whole visit on one printable page: a single tick-box checklist, and a fill-in record of what you actually did. Print it (or save it as a PDF) before you leave the office, and bring it back filled in.

The whole visit, as one checklist#

Chapter 1 — Before you go#

• You have the .zip package and its .sha256.txt fingerprint file, and Check 1 passed.
• You have the filled-in settings template for this specific laptop, with no blank fields.
• You have confirmed the plant's laptop, network, and administrator access will be ready when you arrive.
• You have a working phone number for the rollback contact.

Chapter 2 — Installing Ring#

• C:\Ring\App\Ring.exe exists, with x64\SQLite.Interop.dll present.
• Config\appsettings.local.json exists, has this plant's real values — including a real PLC address (not 127.0.0.1) and two unique passwords that are neither blank nor placeholders — and passed the ConvertFrom-Json check with no error.
• The Ringwood HMI shortcut exists on the desktop and in the Start menu.
• If — and only if — the plant is ready to run unattended: the watchdog restart test actually brought Ring back after you ended its task.

Chapter 3 — First start#

• The wizard's final page has been completed and Ring has opened its normal main screen (not the wizard, not a warning dialog).
• You are certain the read-only safety page was left on "keep read-only mode on."
• The PLC address on page 4 is the real plant controller address, not the 127.0.0.1 placeholder.
• You know which optional pages (email, recipients, defaults, plant names, shifts) you skipped, so you can tell the plant what still needs finishing.

Chapter 4 — Checking your work#

• Checks 1 through 12 all passed (or Check 4's network reachability is explicitly recorded as deferred below).
• You know, and have written down, anything that didn't pass and what you did about it (or who you called).
• The person taking over for operator training has what they need from chapter 4's "Leave-behind notes."

Chapter 5 — When something goes wrong (only if something did)#

• You correctly identified whether you were in situation A (your own unfinished visit) or situation B (an already-live plant) before doing anything.
• Either the problem is fixed and Checks 1-12 in chapter 4 all pass, or you've rolled back cleanly and sent engineering the evidence they need.

Install record#

Fill in the right-hand column as you go. Take a photo of the completed page before you leave, in addition to leaving the paper copy with your handoff notes.
